Small World: Odilon Redon and the Nabis.
Odilon Redon (1840-1916) was known for his spiritual and dark symbolist lithographs.
Maurice Denis (1870-1943) Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) and Edouard Vuillard (1868-1940) were known for their colorful interiors, intimate family settings and scenic landscapes or street scenes of everyday life.
Their subject matter could not be more different.
However, Redon, though a generation older, and the Nabis had a deep admiration for each other, turning away from their academic training to explore their own vision. As described by Denis,,”it is a creation of our spirit, for which nature is only the occasion.”
Redon, Vuillard, Denis and Bonnard all worked with master printer Auguste Clot creating their own series of lithographs. They collaborated with Ambroise Vollard, the leading print publisher and dealer in Paris, selling their prints through his gallery.
To celebrate the 30th edition of the IFPDA Print Fair, Pia Gallo LLC, booth 211, is pleased to present Small World : a special exhibition of rare proofs and impressions of lithographs by Redon, Vuillard, Denis and Bonnard, from the collection of Ambroise Vollard (1866-1939).
